Judas, McCarthy and that famous blue dress…

At times I have labeled myself apathetic when it comes to politics, but that is simply not accurate. Politics interests me, although I am not sure why. If I were to make a list of things that deserved attention, politics would not be anywhere near the top. But still I find myself wrapped up in the discussion. Just yesterday we were privileged enough to see some of the stellar topics covered during an election year:
  • Governor Bill Richardson compared to Judas Iscariot.
  • Senator Hillary Clinton gets caught exaggerating the dangers of her Bosnia trip.
  • Bill Clinton gets compared to Joseph McCarthy and accused of staining his legacy (with a blue dress reference thrown in for good measure.)
  • Barack Obama called a racist for comments he made about his ‘A More Perfect Union’ speech.
  • And the question raised, how close was John McCain to switching parties?
As we struggle with a plethora of significant issues, these are the stories that demand our focus. This is the circus we get to participate in for the next eight months! And yet I continue to tune in and watch the twenty-four hour 'news' networks.

I go in spurts. Right now I'm just not interested in politics, precisely because it is a circus, and to be honest, I'm depressed about the future of American government (not that that's entirely new). Stories of oppressed peoples still leading lives inspire me at present.
To God be all glory,
