So I finally found some time to go the bookstore. It is a quick trip from my office, but I still managed to allow my brain to spin out of control too far in too many directions.
On the way there I was driving behind a Coke truck with a huge Vitamin Water advertisement. Now I have never tried this stuff, but I cannot stop thinking, 'Do we really need to add anything to water?' In addition, I cannot get the movie Idiocracy out of my head. Part of the movie involved society trying to figure out why their crops were dying after they started watering them with gatorade. After all gatorade has everything you need, right?
Another thread of thought had to do with Christian radio. I wonder how often Christian radio is inspiring verse how often it is nothing more than entertainment for religious people. For me it is almost always nothing more than entertainment; should I feel bad that I am not inspired?
A smaller but more powerful thread of thought revolved around the difficulties I have with distance in relationships. I cannot stand being so far away from friends. I have a hard time communicating sometimes when I cannot see the other half of the conversation. Maybe I need to just improve my communication skills entirely?
Significantly less important I was thinking that I really do want to believe that the new X-files movie will not suck :)
Anyways - I bought three books:
The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity... and Why It Matters
Through Painted Deserts: Light, God, and Beauty on the Open Road
I wanted Jesus for President as well, but they were sold out.

idiocracy was an interesting diversion. the idea is interesting tho i think that even if we breed ourselves into stupidity there will always be an intellectual oligarchy. either way it was fun to watch and sad at the same time. i remember when i first saw bottled water in the store and thot to myself - who in the world would pay for something you can get right out of your faucet? ive bought my share of bottled water since then like an idiot.
christian talk radio is a joke. theres maybe 2 or 3 things that are even worth listening to. rc sproul and ravi zacharias are pretty good. the music side is depressing. a bunch of hallmark cards set to elevator music most the time. theres a station in dallas that played some decent stuff from time to time but even tho it was advertized as christian alternative it still played some mainstream stuff like mercy me and third day. and as much as people may hate me for saying so or think im going to hell - third day is anything but inspiring. and their new cover art rip off of radiohead effectively broke it for me. that said - the very idea of christian entertainment is an oxymoron if you ask me.
im trying to picture jesus at the coliseum..
having friends far away sucks. nuff said.
i hear good things about the xfiles movie. ive actually got my hopes on it being better than the first one.
im interested in hearing your thots on those books. especially kellers. he has a new one coming out soon too. its called 'the prodigal god'. should be a hoot.
jesus for prez is interesting. and it may well get me fired before long...
Don't get fired - you may have to pastor an old crusty church if that happens!
